This fine dish is an imitation of the cinnabar lacquer dish. Of quatrefoil form, with shallow everted sides supported on a short tapered foot, the interior carved densely coral-red diaper ground imitating cinnabar lacquer, the base enamelled in black imitating the black lacquer. The dish is one of the typical creations during the Qianlong period imitating wares of different textures which also represented the craftsmanship of the imperial kiln. See two similar examples in collections of the Palace Museum in Shenyang and the Shanghai Museum.
