Guillaume Apollinaire (1880.8.26—1918.11.9), a French poet, novelist, play writer, and critic. He was deemed as the pioneer of Surrealism, as his poems and plays are innovative in many ways. Apollinaire was known for his poems, however, he started his career writing novels. His poetry has a wide range of subjects and styles, and his novels are bizarre and suspenseful. In 1899, Apollinaire arrived in Paris. After securing work as a bank clerk, bookstore staff, journalist, and babysitter, he became friends with and an avid supporter of avant-garde writer A. Jari and artist Pablo Picasso.

In 1904, Pablo Picasso met Fernande Olivier, a model from Bohemia, and soon fell in love with each other. She became the first muse of Picasso, and moved in to his Bateau Lavoir. The beginning of his relationship with Olivier was surely an influence in Picasso’s change of style. He entered into “Rose Period” from the downtime “Blue Period”.
